This deletes your answers, papers, letters, mail log, calls and recordings, shared files and your phone number, for good. Type DELETE to confirm.

Clear your application answers and start over? Your counselor intake, tracked mail, calls and uploaded papers stay. Clear counselor intake on its own page.

Share MortgageAssist with my counselor

A HUD-approved housing counselor can help you review your mortgage options for free. Choose your counselor first. Find a HUD-approved agency. MortgageAssist is not your counselor.

The named recipient needs a separate, verified MortgageAssist account at the email you enter. Forwarding a link does not give someone else access. No invitation email is sent by this page; after saving, you can open an email draft and send the link yourself.

How your counselor gets in

MortgageAssist checks that your counselor owns their email, and checks the email against HUD’s list of approved agencies, which we update every day. A match shows the email belongs to an approved agency. It does not prove the person works there. This is exactly what happens:

  1. Your counselor makes a free MortgageAssist account with their own email and opens the sign-in link we email them. That shows they own the email.
  2. You enter that same email below and save. The name is only a label for you.
  3. You send them the link yourself. It opens only when they are signed in with that email. Forwarding it to someone else does not work.
  4. Access ends after 14 days, or when you stop it. Every time your file is opened or downloaded, it is recorded for you below.

If the email doesn’t match an agency on the list, look the agency up on HUD’s list and ask the agency for your counselor’s email before you share.

1. Read what you will share

First, download your file and open it. Read it the way your counselor will. Your counselor sees a copy as of today; if you change something later, share again.

2. Name the counselor and choose permissions

Your Social Security number and counselor intake, if you saved them, are never included. Your uploaded papers can hold sensitive information, so check what’s included before sharing. A counselor who downloads your file keeps that copy. HUD requires counselors to keep their client files. Stopping sharing ends their access to MortgageAssist; it doesn't delete a copy they already have. HUD client-file requirements (§5-4)

Access expires after 14 days. You can stop it any time. Every successful view and download is recorded below. Turning access off stops future requests; it cannot retrieve downloaded copies. Access checks and logging happen before releasing the content, although a download already in progress may finish.
