MortgageAssist text messages
Last updated
MortgageAssist is a free tool from American Default for homeowners who are behind on their mortgage. When you ask it to, MortgageAssist calls your mortgage company and waits on hold for you. If you agree, it texts you about that call.
How you sign up
On MortgageAssist's call page, you add the number MortgageAssist should ring when a person picks up. Under that number is a box, unchecked unless you check it, that reads "Text me updates about my calls." Beside it is this line:
By checking this box, you agree MortgageAssist may send automated texts to this number about the calls you start, such as when you’re on hold or a call ends. Usually 1 or 2 texts per call. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop, HELP for help. You don’t have to agree to use MortgageAssist.
Only checking that box signs you up. You don't have to agree to texts to use MortgageAssist, and MortgageAssist still calls you without them. MortgageAssist never sends marketing texts.
What we send
Texts come only after you start a call. Usually that's 1 or 2 texts for each call. These are the texts, word for word:
- While you're on hold: "MortgageAssist: You're on hold with [your mortgage company]. Keep your phone close. We'll ring you the moment a person picks up."
- If a person picks up and we can't reach you: "MortgageAssist: A person at [your mortgage company] picked up, but we couldn't reach you in time. We told them you'll call back. You can start a new call in MortgageAssist."
- If no one picks up: "MortgageAssist: We waited 90 minutes on hold with [your mortgage company] and no one picked up, so we hung up. You can try again in MortgageAssist."
Each text uses your mortgage company's name in place of the words in brackets.
Stopping texts and getting help
Reply STOP to any MortgageAssist text and the texts stop. You'll get one text confirming it. Reply START to turn them back on. You can also uncheck the box on the call page.
Reply HELP for help, or email contact@americandefault.org.
Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier isn't responsible for delayed or undelivered texts.
Your number
We use your number only to call and text you about the calls you start. We don't sell it or share it with anyone for marketing, and we don't share your agreement to texts with anyone else. Twilio sends the texts for us. Our privacy policy says what MortgageAssist keeps and how to delete it, and our terms cover the rest of the site.
